The Belcher family, which comprises of Bob, Linda, Tina, Gene, and Louise, is the focus of the cartoon series. The family owns and operates Bob's Burgers on Ocean Avenue in an unknown seaside town (informally referred to as "Seymour's Bay" by the writing crew of the series). The family's experiences managing the restaurant, engaging with the eccentric locals, and negotiating life as a working-class family and business owners are often the subjects of episodes. Episodes occasionally include a single plot involving every member of the Belcher family or feature two parallel plots for various members of the family. A large number of recurring individuals who live in the town engage with the family members. There are a few regulars at Bob's Burgers, most notably Mort from the nearby cremation and handyman Teddy. For customers, the restaurant must outsell a number of other nearby restaurants. Jimmy Pesto, the proprietor of Jimmy Pesto's Pizzeria, an Italian eatery across the street that is normally more successful than Bob's, is by far the two businessmen's largest adversary.
