In his home at Castle Carbunculus, Lord Ruthven reveals to Noe and Vanitas that he believes that Charlatan was making an attempt to kill Lucius, the future Grand Duke of Oriflamme. Vanitas requests an audience with the queen whom he believes may be dead or no longer exist as she has not been seen for some time. Ruthven explodes in a rage and bans Vanitas from his castle and casts Noe and Vanitas back into the human world, confirming Vanitas' suspicions. Dante tells Vanitas that a Chasseur, one of the Church's anti-vampire unit, abducted a curse-bearer which had slipped into Paris and took it into their headquarters in the catacombs...
