Ortus needs it to help him dig up potatoes. He shows Wussywat how to use it to separate the potatoes from the mud. Wussywat puts a big muddy clod in the sieve and gives it a very big shake; a potato flies through the air and knocks Ird's buttons, which scatter in the mud. Poor Ird!
