Jim is supposed to be a cabin steward on the ship and gets his first assignment from Mr. Trelawny. He is supposed to deliver a letter to the owner of a binoculars shop, a one-legged man. This man's name is John Silver. Jim thinks he's a pirate, the man Captain Billy was so afraid of. But John Silver doesn't seem to know the pirate Black Dog, who went into his shop, personally and gets into a heated argument with him. Through this incident, Jim slowly begins to trust the friendly-looking Silver. The next day everyone sets sail. But the departure is overshadowed by another incident: the captain of the ship does not agree with the crew and also demands unconditional obedience from Mr. Trelawny, the ship's owner, at sea. Trelawny grudgingly agrees.
